Infographic Design — Nuclear Power

Project type

Illustration, Infographic

Location

Dakota County Technical College

This student project had us tasked with choosing a relevant Environmental Science topic to create an infographic out of the research information gathered. I chose to do mine on Nuclear Power as I find it to be such an interesting subject in general, especially as the topic is often met with the overall opinion that it’s terrifying. To shed light on this subject but also not shy away from the scary undertone of a potential plant accident. The research found is aimed to show both sides of the coin, the immense good it can do, without sugar-coating the pill that’s too hard to swallow. The Illustrative style concept was certainly a brain teaser, but was surprisingly natural to accomplish. I wanted to go for a dated aesthetic primarily through typographic choices and vibrancy as well as cleaner vector-based sharpness and likeness to the illustrations. The color choices were made to evoke that dated style as well as to poke into that commonly known radiated visualization of items or an environment where everything seemingly glows. This idea, being clearly represented from the transition at the top of clean power to a future of a desert wasteland to imply the dangers of the power source and its possible uses. The software I used for the creation of assets, Photoshop equivalent, Affinity Photo for the creation of a photo-manipulation of stock photos to use as reference for the later illustration. Illustrator equivalent, Affinity Designer for its textured vector brushes, not found in adobe programs.
